Product overview

Turn the surface and color response into a deliberate product feature.

Polymaid’s special-effect range supports product teams exploring pearlescent, metallic, fluorescent, transparent, photochromic, phosphorescent, iridescent, thermochromic, sparkle, granite, crystal, and related visual directions.

01

Effect selection

Start with a physical reference or a clearly described visual behavior.

02

Geometry matters

Part thickness, surface texture, orientation, and lighting can change the final appearance.

03

Process review

Consider shear, temperature, resin clarity, dosing, and production method before approval.

Design the effect in context

Special effects do not appear the same in every resin or product shape. Transparency, base color, wall thickness, mold texture, pigment orientation, and viewing light can substantially change the result.

A useful development brief includes the desired effect, target sample, base polymer, process, product geometry, and whether the appearance needs to be subtle, saturated, translucent, metallic, or light-responsive.

Prototype before production

Many effect pigments require careful handling and process review. Shear, residence time, temperature, and dosing can influence orientation and appearance.

Approve the effect in the intended resin, color base, tooling, and production conditions. A flat color plaque may not predict the final look of a curved, textured, or thin-wall product.

Product questions

A few things worth knowing.

Which special effects are available?

The published range includes pearlescent, fluorescent, transparent, photochromic, phosphorescent, iridescent, thermochromic, metallic, sparkle, diamond, crystal, and granite directions.

Why can the same effect look different in production?

Resin clarity, base color, wall thickness, surface texture, pigment orientation, shear, and lighting can all change the visible result.

What is the best way to approve a special-effect masterbatch?

Review a sample made in the intended resin, tooling, geometry, surface, and production conditions rather than relying only on a flat reference chip.
